- To give your students the opportunity to grow as chess players in a setting that stresses healthy competition, learning, and development of character.
- Because it’s free. There is no cost to schools to join or participate. However, donations are welcome. The Torres Chess and Music Academy is volunteering their time to organize and run the chess league as well as paying the rating fees for all the matches. Please visit www.charitychess.com for more information on placing donations.
- Because it’s a great format. Young chess players are given the opportunity to play rated chess games without delayed rounds, concerns about entry fees, or long drawn out award ceremonies. Our format of 1 game matches will allow more children to enjoy and play rated chess. The chief tournament director, Chris Torres, has managed well over 350 USCF rated sections and understands what it takes to make players, parents, and schools happy.
- Adolph Wirth, Superintendent for the Vineland School District, designed the league with local schools in mind. The Kern Scholastic Chess League will be run to maximize the benefits for all schools who participate while minimizing demands and complexities that currently make it difficult for some schools to participate in other events.
