Rule # 1
All games are to be conducted using United States Chess Federation rules.
Rule # 2
All games are to use g/30 time controls. If a player does not record his/her moves, 10 minutes will be deducted from that players starting time.
Rule # 3
Games between two U.S.C.F. members will be rated. If only one member is a USCF member, then the game will not be rated.
Rule # 4
Board numbers for a team will be determined by rating. The highest rated player will sit at board #1. The second highest player will sit at board #2. Etc. Unrated players are to be placed on board #8. If two or more players are equally rated or are unrated the player who is older shall be placed on the board with the lower number. Players placed on the first eight boards will count for league points. That means board #8 is just as important as board #1.
Rule # 5
Eight (8) players will constitute a team. Failure to field eight players will result in forfeit losses on the boards that are unfilled (automatic points for the opposing team for each board a team is short players). Teams are encouraged to have extra players at the matches to serve as alternates in case there is a last minute cancellation. The alternates will be paired against each other if there are not needed to fill in for another teammate. The alternate games will be rated if they are USCF members, however, only the first eight boards will be counted for league points.
Rule # 6
rosters including rating and grade must be submitted to Chris Torres at least 48 hours before a match. The roster must list all eight players, plus any alternate players who may attend, along with their USCF IDs (if applicable), their current rating, and their grade and birth date.
Rule # 7
The host school shall determine if their players sitting on odd board numbers will play white or black. For example: the home team can decide to have boards 1, 3, 5, and 7 be white. All team members on odd board numbers must be the same color. All team members on even board numbers must be the same color. The match will consist of one game per board only.
Rule # 8
Matches will be scored by awarding 1 point for each win and 0.5 points for each draw. No points will be awarded for a loss.
Rule # 9
Points from each match teams participate in will be added together with the points from all other matches that team has played to form a cumulative score which will be used to determine the standings in each division.
Rule # 10
Division Champions will play each other a two game match to determine the league champions. The championship will be two games with each participant playing once as white and once as black.
Rule # 11
For the 2008 season there will be two sections per division. Section One will be K-6 graders and Section Two will be 6-8 graders. This means that 6th graders can participate in meets in either section.
